Terms of service

These are the terms on which Shahzad Halal Butchers sells meat to you through this site. They are written to be read, not to be hidden. If anything is unclear, ask us at [email to be confirmed]. Our address is Wembley, London.

Who these terms are for

Retail customers ordering for themselves, and business customers ordering on a trade account. Where a rule applies only to one, it says so. You must be 18 or over to hold an account.

Prices and the weight you pay for

Most of what we sell is priced per kilogram. Meat is cut to order, so the weight you receive can differ slightly from the weight you asked for. You pay for the weight we actually cut, at the price per kilogram shown when you ordered. We say this before you pay, and again on the order.

You can pay by card when you order, or in cash to the driver when a delivery arrives, or at the counter when you collect. A trade account is invoiced for each delivery. The total you see before your order is cut is an estimate of the weight, and the order and the invoice show the weight we actually cut.

If you pay by card, we do not charge you when you order. Because the meat is not yet cut, we ask your bank to hold a little more than the estimate — enough to cover a cut that comes in heavier. We tell you that figure before you pay, and it is the most that can ever be taken. When your order is cut we charge the real weight, which is usually less, and your bank releases the difference; how long that takes is your bank's decision, not ours. If we cancel your order before it is cut, nothing is taken and the hold is released.

Most fresh meat is zero-rated for VAT, so the price shown is the price you pay. Where VAT does apply it is shown separately on your order and on the invoice, and wholesale prices, which we quote per account rather than publish, are quoted before it. Delivery may carry a charge. Where it does, you are told what it is when you check your postcode, again with your basket, and again before you place the order, and it appears on the order and on the invoice. Some areas have a figure above which delivery costs nothing; you are told that figure at the same time. Beyond the prices shown and the delivery charge shown, there is nothing further to pay.

Orders

Your order is an offer to buy. We accept it when we confirm it by email, and a contract is formed then. We may decline an order, for example if a product is unavailable or an address is outside our delivery area, and if so we will not charge you.

Delivery and collection

We deliver to the postcodes listed on the site, in the time slots offered at checkout, and you can collect from the shop. Someone must be available to receive fresh meat. If nobody is, we will try to contact you; if we cannot deliver, we will bring it back to the shop for collection that day. We do not charge a redelivery fee.

Trade accounts

A business customer on account is invoiced for each delivery, with a statement at the end of each month, on the payment terms agreed when the account was opened, and has a credit limit. An order that would take the account past its limit is declined until the balance is reduced. Overdue invoices may be charged interest under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998. We may place an account on hold while a balance is overdue.

Cancellations and refunds

Fresh meat is perishable, so the usual 14-day right to cancel an online purchase does not apply. Your rights when something is wrong with what you receive are set out in our refunds and cancellations policy, and nothing here reduces your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Our liability

We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that is not foreseeable, or for business losses of a retail customer. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us limit.

Your account

Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for orders placed through your account unless you have told us it has been compromised. You can delete your account at any time from your account page.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes go to its courts. If you live elsewhere in the UK you may also use your local courts.
